Happy Feast of St. Joseph the Worker! Did you know that there was another feast day for St. Joseph? For a long time I didn't. Then somehow I found out about him and when we needed a Patron Saint for our business, I knew he was the one for the job. We've worked him hard for a long time, even though we don't have that business anymore. Currently he helps pay the bills every month.

The Origin of this Feast of St. Joseph
Pope Pius the XII instituted this feast back in 1955 to fight against the "May Day" celebrations for workers that were sponsored by Communists. St. Joseph was chosen for this role because he was a carpenter and has always been the best example of the "holiness of human labor".
We know that St. Joseph is a miracle worker. As St. Teresa of Avila has written, “I wish I could persuade everyone to be devoted to this glorious saint, for I have great experience of the blessings which he can obtain from God." What better than to add to that his watchful eye over all the workers of the world.
St. Joseph the Worker's Miracles
I cannot begin to tell you the number of times that St. Joseph would pull a financial miracle out of the bag for us. Most of the time we'd be down to the wire with having to pay payroll or a big bill and, while he might keep us waiting and praying till the last minute, he always came through.
There would be times where I'd be thinking that there was no way he was going to be able to pull it off, and he still would. Not that we didn't try hard to do what we needed to do ourselves, mind you. Just when you thought things would be okay, a customer wouldn't pay or a piece of equipment would break down. Running a business is not for the faint of hear, that's for sure.
Even now St. Joseph still keeps an eye on our finances. We have a big family on one income and money has always been tight for us. That's why I've always kept St. Joseph's statue on my desk; right by the spot where I pay the bills. He still continues to work accounting miracles for us.
Do you have a Patron Saint for Your Finances?
If not, I would highly recommend calling upon St. Joseph the Worker. Developing an intimate relationship with one Saint, or even a few, is what makes this Catholic faith of ours so rich. We have so many great people to choose from to buddy up with.
Why worry about making ends meet when you can enlist the aid of one of the greatest Saints of the church and have faith that he will come through for you all the time. Of course, as we all know, the "miracle" might not always look like what we think it should. That's where the faith part comes in. When you look back down the long road, however, you'll see that he always had your back.
St. Joseph the Worker, pray for us!
